Get involved The UCSF Community Dental Clinic was started by four senior dental students in 1993. Each year, the majority dental and dental hygiene students at UCSF participate in this activity. The students, under faculty supervision, perform screenings, restorations, cleanings, health education, and palliative care. These services not only provide the homeless with better oral health, but also motivate them to take an active role in the care of their general well-being. This opportunity for students to get involved and serve the less fortunate is of great value in a complete dental education and template for future community service as dentists. The program is officially recognized by the school and elective credit is given to participating students. Seminars are also offered by the CDC that educate students on homelessness and our target patient population. and enables students to provide selected oral health services. Student Manual
